The Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist program trains qualified instructors across the state to facilitate classes. Instructors are provided with a specific ACDS Curriculum and resource materials to guide and assist them with classroom instruction. Instructors must meet the minimum qualifications set forth by the ACDS State Executive Council and attend a multiple day training, referred to as the Instructor Academy. The instructor qualifications are:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood, Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education or Elementary Education
  • Minimum of one year experience working directly with young children
  • Current WV STARS Trainer Certificate prior to teaching
  • WV Mandated Reporter Training: Making a Difference certificate prior to teaching
  • Foundations of Adult Learning Theory prior to teaching
